The Benefits Of Small Experiments

If things don’t work in the way you envisage, perhaps mix things up and try a small experiment, the result may be surprisingly positive. However, even if it doesn’t work, you still get useful information, which can help you refine your approach and pivot in another direction.

I uploaded a YouTube clip from my interview with Lorraine K. Lee on episode 94 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast and was surprised that it had fewer views than anticipated. I thought that the topic would have a wide appeal as it looked at how introverts can succeed at work, Lorraine is a wonderful communicator and shared a number of helpful insights.

I thought that perhaps it was the format rather than the content that was the problem and turned the video into a Short, see below, which I uploaded yesterday. The result … within 40 minutes, it had 400 views, which far exceeds my usual views for Shorts.

Clearly, this is a very limited sample size but going forward, I will definitely be releasing more shorts and perhaps repurposing other videos into Shorts to see what happens. It’s not easy to predict what your audience wants and as Dorie Clark talks about, it’s sometimes just a question of moving the odds in your favour by increasing your “at bats”.

Thanks for a great interview Lorraine and so pleased for the success you’re having with Unforgettable Presence!
