If you don’t get through that big job interview or you’re passed over for that promotion, it’s all too easy to just stop trying because you can’t fail if you don’t try. However, it’s all too important to learn the lessons, look forward and keep “taking your shot” to increase your chances of future success.
Sumit Paul-Choudhury, the author of The Bright Side, and I talked about this on Episode 91 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast and he told me:
“From my perspective they’re both failures, right? but one is a passive failure and one is an active failure …
I think you can choose whether you want to fail passively or
you can choose whether you want to fail actively.
At least failing actively gives you a chance of succeeding, failing passively doesn’t give you any chance. Given the choice of trying and not making it versus just not making it. I think I’d certainly go for the first.”
